Starve Mode Review

Editor Rating:

4 stars

$49 – $79

Pros

  • Much-needed product for dieters who have buried themselves in a metabolism graveyard. That is, if you have been dieting for quite a while and have managed to destroy your metabolism, this product is your solution to sustainable metabolism repair.
  • Provides an in-depth discussion about metabolism unmatched by any other fitness or diet programs.
  • This program is endorsed by Tom Venuto (he even wrote the foreword) – one of the most-well known names in the fitness and weight loss industry.
  • Paradigm-shifting perspective on dieting, fat loss, and metabolism. We know “breakthrough” is one of those buzzwords that get thrown around a lot, but this program really lives up to that description.
  • Each claim is based on evidence, all of which are cited and referenced in the program; allowing you to crosscheck every statement especially those that contradicts prevailing opinion. This type of transparency by the author indicates good faith and is highly appreciated.
  • Very well-written with a highly-intelligent, almost philosophical, tone.
  • Simple and very readable presentation.

Cons

  • Not for everyone. This is not a dieting book composed of diet recipes and meal plans. This is a detailed guide that deals with a very specific subject matter – metabolism and its relationship to “starvation mode.”
  • The author is not as formally credentialed or certified compared to other fitness and weight loss gurus.
  • Heavy on concepts and borders on the too technical (which really can’t be helped considering the topic discussed).
  • We didn’t get any response from the support team when we tried contacting them via email.

Starve Mode Basic Product Details

Starve Mode Product LineupStarve Mode is an interesting, albeit unconventional, product to say the least. We really can’t put it into the dieting mold since it is not a dieting product (as emphasized by the author herself within the program) which is normally composed of meal plans and recipes; nor is it a fitness guide as exercises and fitness routines aren’t provided in large quantities here. The closest thing to describe this product would be a nutrition guide with an extreme focus on your body’s metabolism responses to food intake, among other things.

This program gives you a metabolism crash course and teaches you every practical thing you need to know about metabolism as it relates to fat loss and weight management. This guide also helps you “fix” your metabolism should your body find itself in a rut when you’ve dieted your way into the dreaded “starvation mode;” or worse, an eating disorder. The program also helps you regulate your metabolism depending on your goals.

Starve Mode is authored by Leigh Peele. Like her products, Leigh is an enigma (which makes her and her products really stand out from the rest). Leigh doesn’t have the formal nutrition credentials or fitness background like most experts in the industry possess; Leigh simply describes herself as a layman researcher, author, and trainer. However, Leigh has appeared in more fitness media than most experts in the field can even dream of. Leigh and her works have made their way into popular health magazines like Men’s Health, OnFitness Magazine, and Women’s Health as well as respected news media like Los Angeles Times, The Washington Times, Yahoo!, and some Fox network shows. How a layman can command this much media respect is a testament to the credibility of her work.

What’s Inside Starve Mode

As we browsed through the program, the statement “your body doesn’t know the difference between dying and dieting” really caught our attention. Read through that again. The implication of that statement means that every diet method or program out there is essentially about letting your body slowly die. As a survival response, your body fights back hard via metabolic adaptation. That is, as you enter a diet and eat less, your body enters “starvation mode,” burns less fat to “stay alive,” and you end up with a broken metabolism that makes it harder and harder to keep your weight managed. It’s no wonder why dieting doesn’t work long term.

Another interesting discussion deals with something that most people (and sadly, majority of diet programs out there) get wrong when it comes to dieting. The prevailing dieting adage is any weight gain is bad. That is the cardinal rule of dieting as it stands. However, most dieters and diet programs fail to account that you can be losing fat while not losing weight (or even gaining weight) because of other factors such as water retention. This program preaches that basing your progress strictly on the weighing scale is not only flawed, but potentially harmful.

The last highlight that we’ll share is about Leigh’s tips on metabolic repair. There are a lot of techniques within the program (refeeds, energy vs. activity balance, among other things) but all of them are designed to give you a healthy relationship with food and help you lose fat on a sustainable level.

Our Starve Mode Verdict

Like we mentioned above, Starve Mode (as well as its author, Leigh) is an enigma. The product can’t be put in the same category as the avalanche of rehashed diet and nutrition guides flooding the market right now; while the author writes in a tone that is uniquely her own (can you say “authentically original?”). Of course, the product is not without its minor shortcomings. However, overall the amount of unique and breakthrough information that this product provides more than make up for the small flaws that is has. As such, we give Starve Mode a well-deserved 4 out of 5 stars rating.

It’s a “not diet” program that deals with the much overlooked yet highly important topic of metabolism repair. This is the program you go to when whatever fad diet you are following finally succeeded in destroying your metabolism and gets you into a “weight loss, weight gain” roller coaster. These types of programs are not many; and among that rare collection, Starve Mode stands out as one of the most credible and well-written piece.

The main thing you have to consider though is that while Starve Mode is a great product, it’s not for everybody. And we say that with the utmost seriousness. In order to appreciate this product, you really need to make sure that it is really what you are looking for – a metabolism fix and a solution to “starvation mode.” If you are looking for the latest diet fad, this is not it.

Nevertheless, this product succeeds where dieting fails. It is the cure to the harmful effects of the weight loss dieting epidemic and is a definite must-have if you really want to “diet” correctly.
